MC2 Post 1281 Now This IS News--CNN Hit 20-Year Primetime Ratings Low In May

From:  http://www.huffingtonpost.com

===================================

The Bad News just Keeps Coming for CNN.

May was the network's worst month for total viewers during primetime in over 20 years. CNN drew an average of just 389,000 primetime viewers from April 30 to May 27. In comparison, MSNBC drew an average of 674,000 total viewers, while Fox News boasted an average of 1,692,000 total viewers.

It was also the network's second-worst month in primetime for viewers in the key demographic since October 1991.

MC2 Post 1280 DVD Extra: 'Route 66: The Complete Series'

------------------------------------------------------
The Complete Series of 'Route 66,' starring Martin Milner and George Maharis,

is now available on DVD.

For nearly 60 years, U.S. Route 66 was America's Mother Road, a highway stretching from Chicago to Los Angeles and connecting towns and cities along its 2,451-mile length. It was the migratory path for California-bound workers during the Dust Bowl era of the 1930s and vacationers in later years seeking sunnier climates.

MC2 Post 1279 LG’s New 5-Inch Smartphone Display Makes The iPhone’s Retina Display

But LG has finally given the iPhone’s Retina display a real competitor. Its new, 5-inch smartphone panel boasts a 1920 x 1080 resolution with a staggering 440 pixels per inch and promises to provide incredibly crisp images with full, high-definition video. In comparison, the iPhone’s 3.5-inch Retina display boasts just 326 pixels per inch at a 960 x 640 resolution.

From:  http://www.cultofmac.com

===================================
===================================

LG’s new display, however, sounds like it has all the ingredients to become the new king of smartphone screens. Its insanely high resolution, coupled with a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio which makes it ideal for viewing video content, will set a high bar for other manufacturers to reach.

The display is expected to be released during the second half of this year, and it will be exhibited at SID 2012 Display Week in Boston which starts June 4.

The Google 7-inch tablet is on the way, according to a fresh report -- the latest in a long line of reports dating back to the beginning of the year. The tablet will hit the market in July, according to a Thursday report from DigiTimes. Shipments -- about 600,000 initially -- are set to begin in June, the Taipei-based publication claimed.

Pinball Arcade

Temple Run
Free

In yet another iOS-ported favorite, you play an Indiana Jones doppelganger clutching a golden icon, and your goal is to run away from evil eagle-gorilla monsters by tilting and swiping your way through obstacles in your path. The first Android release from March 28 was too buggy for prime time, but it doesn't distract too much from the addictive element.

===================================
===================================

Asphalt 6: Adrenaline
99 cents

The racing game Asphalt 6: Adrenaline requires you to download a ridiculously large 600MB file to start, but hear me out on why it's worth it. In return for draining your battery and storage, Asphalt 6 gives you super sharp graphics, excellent sound effects, 42 cars and bikes (including Lamborghinis and Ferraris), and beautifully-designed tracks through major cities rendered in HD. Gameplay is slightly buggy, but forgivably so. You can race against up to six friends or play alone. It's no Need for Speed, but Asphalt is perhaps the highest-quality racing game available on Android.

===================================
===================================

Draw Something
Free

Draw Something, the latest app craze, pits iOS and Android users in simple gesture-based drawing competitions. Pick a word from a list of three, draw it on your screen with your finger using a variety of colors and brushes, and then send it to your friend to guess what you've drawn. You win coins if your friend guesses correctly. It's very simple and, like Words With Friends, the addiction lies in the robust social aspect.

Words With Friends

Words With Friends was the original "With Friends" app, and it's still one of the best. In this multiplayer game you build words on a Scrabble-like board, where certain tiles earn you more points. A built-in chat feature is handy for smack talk. Words With Friends is cross-platform and you can play with users of iOS, Nook, Kindle, and Facebook.

Bejeweled 2
$2.99

Bejeweled 2 is a high-quality recreation of the classic match-three computer game, Bejeweled. The premise is very simple: match gems on a grid to get rid of them before they overwhelm your screen and you lose. It's highly addictive. The Android app incorporates crisp audio and visuals.

Google officially Closes $12.5 Billion Motorola Mobility Deal

The long wait is finally over. Google CEO Larry Page says Dennis Woodside, a "long-time Googler," will take over atop Motorola Mobility.

After waiting months for the go-ahead to say so, Google CEO Larry Page today announced that his company now officially owns Motorola Mobility.  Google announced plans to acquire Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion in August. Upon doing so, the companies had to clear regulatory hurdles to get the deal done. Regulators in both the U.S. and the European Union approved the acquisition back in February, but the companies were forced to wait for China. Over the weekend, China approved the deal, paving the way for Google to close it.

Five Fingers

Leap, the new 3D motion control system, is accurate down to the hundredth of a millimeter level and can reflect movement by any of a user's fingers.

--------------------------
Picture Two Dialog:
Swinging left

The Leap system is designed to give users extremely responsive hands-free control over their computers. The company says it offers 200 times the sensitivity of existing technology, including Microsoft's Kinect.

--------------------------
Picture Three Dialog:
The Leap

The Leap, which is expected to be released early next year, should cost $70 and come with access to an app store where developers will make their creations available. The device connects to a computer via a USB port.

--------------------------
Picture Four Dialog:
Five Finger Drawing

Unlike existing technologies, the Leap can recognize each of a user's fingers, allowing him or her to control things
at the finger level.

One example of how the system is useful is that anyone can zoom in or out of a map using the same pinching gestures smartphone users have become familiar with. Except they don't need to touch a screen.

MC2 Post 1278 Staples Center--Playoffs Sports Ground Zero This Week End

LOS ANGELES — A crew of about 35 event floor employees at Staples Center waited for Thursday’s NHL Western Conference finals game between the Los Angeles Kings and Phoenix Coyotes to end, so that their grueling 2½-hour exercise could begin: The Los Angeles Lakers’ hardwood and hoops needed to be placed over the worn-down ice in preparation for Friday’s NBA Western Conference semifinal game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

With 168 luxury suites and 53 concession stands, the job of getting a 1-million-square-foot arena cleaned, restocked with food and prepared for another throng of 20,000 different fans is complicated. “Let’s just hope the Kings end on time. If it doesn’t, all bets are off,” Zeidman said with a laugh.

Staples Center is otherwise well-prepared, having done 127 double-header conversions since the building opened, including 19 so far this season. But nothing will compare to what’s in store this weekend.

“This will be the wildest,” Zeidman said.

MC2 Post 1277 Here's How Desperately Cities Want Apple Stores

According to a report, Apple gets hugely preferential leases just to open its stores in certain cities and locations. Why is anyone surprised?

===============================
Filed Under:  Let's Make A Dealers Deal.
===============================

It seems that Apple is Retail's Botox.

The minute an Apple store appears in a shopping mall -- or, say, a vast famous New York railway station -- somehow the area becomes prettier and more devastatingly young.

The Next Web reports that Apple is continually offered ludicrously favorable incentives just to be the next shiny dance partner for a city or a shopping mall.

Apparently, authorities in Grand Central Terminal and Salt Lake City didn't bother with annoying complexities as some (or any) rent or share of profit in order to encourage Cupertino to erect a little more glass, white and silver in their vicinities.

ABC News suggests that the Utah city offered 5 years free rent.
