IBM Misses It's Mark.

IBM CEO Ginni Rometty: Failing Fast

Author: Steven Zolman

In a previous blog post, I took great pains at articulating my 10 Reasons Why Ginni Rometty would fail as IBM’s new CEO.  In the post, I mentioned the poisonous sales culture (you live by the sword, you die by the sword), which is at the center (of blame) for this and last quarter’s missed performance targets.  Another concern was the ‘garage sale’ of business units that would inevitably have to come if IBM were to meet its targets.

As we have recently learned, IBM appears to be in the process of selling its server business to Lenovo, and it has long been rumored to be preparing its services business for sale as well.  It seems Ginni may be failing faster than even I had predicted.

Cord-Cutters Rejoice: CBS Joins Web Stream

Just one day after HBO said it would start an Internet-only offering, CBS announced on Thursday its own subscription streaming service that lets people watch its live programming and thousands of current and past shows on demand.

The moves signal a watershed moment for web-delivered television, where viewers have more options to pay only for the networks or programs they want to watch — and to decide how, when and where to watch them.

Apple Event Mostly Boring even with Colbert

It began with roughly 45+ minutes of  headlines for the "Press" and tabloids.  And then went into an area where Apple has no business being: A comedy club routine about,  of all things "security".

Ill advised.

Everything’s better and faster. How could Apple be so boring?

From:   http://www.cultofmac.com

Was Apple’s livestreamed iPad event really such a big yawn? Search Twitter for

“#AppleEvent yawn” or “Apple boring” and you’ll see tweet after tweet bemoaning the boring nature of Thursday’s press conference. It got so tedious for some, there were dozens of photos of napping dogs.

“Most boring Apple event ever,” tweeted one. “Bring back the Chinese translation.”

Part DEUX:

Maybe some of those folks are being facetious, but there’s a grain of truth in the tweets:

Nothing about Thursday’s event, except for maybe Stephen Colbert’s crackup comedy bit with Craig Federighi, was super-compelling on the surface. Many of the specs had been leaked (some even by Apple itself), and the rumor mill proved pretty accurate in the run-up to the presentation.

Still, this was no Phantom Menace. I mean really, what were people expecting?

Jetpacks, aliens and electric cars?

This is Apple’s big dilemma right now: How do you top yourself when you make the best products in the world?

‘The Walking Dead’ Ratings: Season 5 Debut Shatters

Cable Records As 17.3 Million Watch

With a lot of red meat and explosions galore, the zombie apocalypse returned to AMC last night bigger than ever. The Season 5 debut of The Walking Dead pulled in 17.3 million total viewers on Sunday at 9 PM with 11 million among adults 18-49. With a rise of 7% and 6%, respectively, that viewership and demo series record chews up the previous high of 16.1 million watching and 10.4 million among the 18-49s that the Season 4 premiere of the blockbuster series drew on October 13 last year.

MC2 Post 1922 It's Beginning to Look Like "Wait Til Next Year" in LA Sports

Dodgers relievers, hitters in wrong zone in
3-1 loss to Cardinals

From:  http://www.latimes.com

 By Dylan Hernandez

Matt Kemp spoke calmly and deliberately, but his words were charged with rage.

Kemp wasn't upset with the Dodgers bullpen, which predictably fell apart again and sent his team crashing to a 3-1 defeat to the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 3 of their National League division series.

Rather, his anger was directed at home plate umpire Dale Scott."Terrible strike zone," Kemp said. "I've never seen anything like it."

Kemp's diatribe was only starting. But whatever Kemp said wouldn't alter the reality the Dodgers were facing.

Baseball's most expensive team now trails the best-of-five series, two games to one.

Clayton Kershaw is scheduled to start Game 4, but will be doing so on only three days' rest, meaning the Dodgers will almost certainly have to turn again to their horror show of a bullpen.

MC2 Post 1920 The Mighty Dodger Pitcher Kershaw Strikes Out

Cardinals' Winning Rally Escalates Quickly and Clayton Kershaw can't stop it

From:  http://www.latimes.com

Yes, this was really happening. Yes, in about 20 sweltering minutes early Friday evening, the two-time Cy Young Award winner blew a five-run lead, the richest payroll in baseball blew a seemingly certain win, and raucous Dodger Stadium flat melted.

"There are no words you can use right now," said a somber A.J. Ellis.

This was a speechless defeat indeed, a 10-9 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals in the opener of the National League division series that ranks as the worst Dodgers postseason loss since Tom Lasorda failed to walk Jack Clark in the ninth inning of Game 6 of the 1985 National League Championship Series against the Cardinals.

Five takeaways from heartbreaking Game 2 loss
for the Angels

Eric Hosmer was looking to swing away on the first pitch, and after he connected, he leaned back and watched the ball soar. For the second night in a row, the Angles were doomed by an extra-inning home run by the Royals.

They now trail 0-2 in the series. Since 1995, only four of 22 AL division series teams have come back from that hole. Here are the takeaways from Game 2, starting with the surprising fact that …
