MC2 Post 1429 Two Top Executives Leaving Apple

They were shown the door without the aide of  "Google Maps".

From:  http://www2.wspa.com

NEW YORK, N.Y. --

Retail head John Browett was the CEO of British electronics chain Dixons before joining Apple.

The stores will report to CEO Tim Cook while the company looks for a replacement, Apple says. Apple says the head of its store operations is leaving after just six months on the job.

In addition, the long-serving head of its iPhone
software development operations is also exiting.

And Scott Forstall was senior vice president of iOS software and joined Apple in 1997 with its purchase of Steve Jobs' NeXT startup.

The company credits him as one of the original architects of Mac OS X.

He may have had something to do with the Google Maps fiasco.

Craig Federighi, who is now in charge of the Mac OS,

John Grisham paints a dire picture
of Money and Political Corruption

in  "The Appeal" .

Politics has always been a dirty game.

Now justice is, too.

Carl Trudeau, with judicial elections looming, decides to try to purchase himself a seat on the Court.

The cost is a few million dollars, a drop in the bucket for a
billionaire like Mr. Trudeau. Through an intricate web of conspiracy and deceit,
his political operatives recruit a young, unsuspecting candidate. They finance him, manipulate him, market him, and mold him into a potential Supreme Court justice.

Their Supreme Court justice.

MC2 Post 1425 Fact-Checking Phil Schiller on iPad Mini vs. Nexus 7

Was Apple Exec Phil Schiller correct in his charges against the Android tablet?

More importantly, was it even fair to compare the two devices?

Sometimes yes, and sometimes no.

From:  http://reviews.cnet.com

Apple is growing concerned over
Android tablets' momentum.

How do I know? Today, the company's senior vice president of marketing, Phil Schiller, spent a fairly unusual amount of time talking about them.

During the iPad Mini announcement this morning, Schiller got in quite the zinger when he said that "others have tried to make tablets smaller than the iPad, and they've failed." What's more, he claimed that there is a
"gigantic difference" between the iPad Mini and Nexus 7 before leveling a number of charges against the Android device. I'll admit that some of them may have been deserved, but let's take a look at a few of them
to see if they hold water.

Something For the Way-Back Machine:

Do you remember when Sony was Apple?

Sony dominated consumer electronics for decades,
but that was a long time ago.

There was a time when Sony was the
first name in consumer electronics.

The company's Trinitron TVs dominated the TV market for decades. In 1975, Sony's Betamax was the first widely adapted consumer video recorder format. The Walkman hit the market in 1979 and changed the way people listened to music, creating the personal audio market category. In 1982 the CD, which the company developed jointly with
Philips, changed the way we listened to music even more. Sony extended its reach when it purchased CBS Records in 1988 and Columbia Pictures in 1989, and scored a triumph in the home videogame console realm in 1994 with the first PlayStation. More recently, Sony backed Blu-ray and quickly dispatched the only other HD video challenger, HD DVD.

Like Apple, Sony's styling was always ahead of the pack. Sony's market share, products, and technologies were more widespread and influential than Apple's are now, but Sony's luster is fading fast.

Sony faces setback as Hackers Release PlayStation 3 Decryption Keys

Availability of "LV0" keys allows access to console's most sensitive regions.

Sony faced a setback in its campaign to control what software can run on its PlayStation 3 after hackers published one of the cryptographic keys that forms the core of the security scheme locking down the game console.

MC2 Post 1422 What the Snitch has to Say about the Upcoming Google Event

Upcoming Google Event Revealed:

From:  http://thenextweb.com

Diverting some of the attention away from Apple’s ‘iPad mini’ unveiling on October 23 and Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 event on October 29, Google is to unveil a number new devices and software improvements on the same day as Microsoft - and we have all the details.

A source with knowledge of Google’s plans has told The Next Web that the search giant has been distributing a video recorded at one of its weekly all-hands “TGIF” meetings on its internal network, which details the devices that will be unveiled at its hastily arranged October 29 event (which we [TNW] will also be attending).

Encryption Found Insufficient in Many Android Apps

Researchers have discovered catastrophic conditions when analysing Android applications that use encryption: more than 1,000 of the 13,500 most popular Android apps showed signs of a flawed and insecure implementation of the SSL/TLS encryption protocol. Tests performed on 100 selected apps confirmed that 41 of them were vulnerable to known attacks. The researchers harvested users' bank and credit card details as well as the access tokens for their Facebook, Twitter and email accounts, and messaging services.

In a particularly striking test, the researchers injected a bogus virus signature into Zoner AntiVirus for Android that referred to the app itself. The AV app dutifully proceeded to classify itself as a threat and then offered to delete itself.
See Below.

An embarrassing consequence of insufficient encryption: a bogus virus signature prompts the anti-virus software to try and delete itself .

MC2 Post 1421 --02 MUB Just Days before the Windows 8 Event Apple Rumors Go Bonkers

Apple will hold the event at the California Theatre in
San Jose, Calif., at 10 a.m. Pacific, 1 p.m. Eastern,

according to Jim Dalrymple of The Loop. The venue is a change from the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, where Apple announced the iPhone 5 along with its updated iPod lineup last month.

The invitations sent out members of the press feature the top of Apple's iconic logo against a background of colors.

The tagline is "We've got a little more to show you,"
hinting at the company's so-called "iPad mini."

Earlier Tuesday, AppleInsider was first to report that 24 new, different iPad configurations are set to be released by Apple. Four models ??described as P101, P103, P105 and P107 ? were detailed via stock-keeping units ranked as "good," "better" and "best," each with two color options, presumably black and white.

Largest Apple Store in Asia opens to huge crowd

When the Wangfujing Apple Store opened its doors to a crush of customers on Saturday local China time, the third brick-and-mortar Apple retail location in Beijing officially became Asia's largest.

According to on-site reports from The Next Web, throngs of excited Apple fans lined up hours in advance to be one of the first to enter the world's newest Apple Store.

Among the usual features, Apple's Wangfujing location boasts a central winding glass staircase spanning the store's three stories, two 360-degree Genius Bars and a facade dominated by glass. The outlet joins the company's stores in the region, five in China and two in Hong Kong, and adds to the over 390 Apple Stores operating worldwide.
