MC2 Post 988 How Can Gitmark Get High Marks and Be More Delicious?

--------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------
WingWords:  "I have quietly been looking for a replacement for Delicious ever since I heard Yahoo! wanted to find a buyer for the "Social Bookmarking" tool.  Maybe GitMark IS the answer."
--------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------

Yahoo Gets $5 Mill + for Delicious

From:  http://thenextweb.com

--------------------------------------------------------------
From:  http://www.readwriteweb.com

GitMarks is a command-line based social bookmarking tool built on Git with Python. It's a script that grabs the content from a URL and stores in Git repository where it can be searched with GREP. It features tags and descriptions, and can import bookmarks from Delicious.

It seems like it could be useful for research teams, or to quickly dump lots of content in one place for future text mining.

--------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------
WingWords:

"Gitmarks was built by bit.ly Chief Scientist
Hilary Mason, but it's been picked up by Far McKon.

He's looking for contributors."

"Maybe, for starters GitMark also needs is a Front-End .
A Nice One. As someone with a Python dialect once said."

MC2 Post 986 It Looks Like OED just added FYI, OMG and LOL to the Lofty Tome

From:  http://latimesblogs.latimes.com

OED

It's official: OMG and LOL are no longer just time-saving shorthands. They're real English.

In a decision that may drive English teachers across the nation to despair, the Oxford English Dictionary (OED), the venerable last word on proper language, has embraced the tech world and added several abbreviations — or "initialisms" — to its new online edition.

Those include OMG (Oh my god), LOL (laughing out loud), TMI (too much information), FYI (for your information) and BFF (best friends forever).

Newly added to OED: FYI OMG and LOL.

MC2 Post 984 Rome Wasn't Built in a Day Either, You Know.

Rome Coliseum

Image Playstation 3.

Rome, NY -- Computer scientists just up the Thruway at Rome’s Air Force Research Lab have assembled one of the world’s largest, fastest and cheapest supercomputers — and it’s made from PlayStation 3s.

1,716 of Them.

The Condor Station.

The Air Force calls the souped-up PlayStations the Condor Supercomputer and says it is among the 40 fastest computers in the world. The Condor went online late last year, and it will likely change the way the Air Force and the Air National Guard watch things on the ground.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Back Story First, from Arstechnica (March 2009):

Sun hammering away at solid-state market,
system bottlenecks

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ZFS/Mac coming soon

Unix (in todays's world this pretty much means LINUX) and Mac OS are designed to support different file systems - Mac folks may use 3 a day without knowing it - which is why ZFS on Mac is not only possible, but practical. And not only practical, but a giant step forward for data integrity and performance. Here’s what to expect.
