Output Color Connectors should go to the SAME  Input Color Connector.

green =shaders
yellow =color
gray =values
blue =vectors

It's day 30th of June and I've not even come close

to my usual Blog-a-Day schedule.

A  whole lot of  personal things probably own the

But not all of it.

MC2 Post 1871 The Amazing Story of Sprites on the Edge of Space

On NOVA.

Between the blue sky above us and the infinite blackness of space lies a frontier full of enigmas that scientists have only just begun to investigate. “At the Edge of Space” takes viewers on a spectacular exploration to probe the earth-space boundary zone, home to some of nature’s most puzzling and alluring phenomena: the shimmering aurora, streaking meteors, and fleeting flashes that shoot upwards from thunderclouds, known as sprites. Discovered in 1989, sprites have eluded capture because they flicker into existence for a mere split-sec¬ond — 40 times faster than an eye blink. NOVA rides with scientists in a high-flying weather observation plane as they hunt for sprites and finally succeed in snaring them in 3D video, gaining vital clues to unravel their mystery. NOVA also combines advanced video technology with stunning sequences shot from the International Space Station.

MC2 Post 1870 When You're Hot You're HOT !!!

The Home Planet Experiences its Warmest May

on Record

By Tom Yulsman | June 17, 2014 8:19 pm

From:   http://blogs.discovermagazine.com

If you live in the central United States it may not have felt this way, but for the Earth overall, last month likely was the warmest May on record.

The average global temperature for May was 1.38 degrees Fahrenheit above the long-term average, according to NASA. Of course, none of us experiences the global average, ever. What we feel is particular to where we’re at.

So if you happen to have spent most of May in Texas, you would have experienced a cooler than average May. But have a look at the map above. It charts how temperatures during the month departed from normal. So, to offer one example, if you happen to have spent most of May in Alaska, well, the map should give a good sense of what you experienced…

In the meantime, consider that yesterday, the Japan Meteorological Agency announced that March, April and May comprised he warmest spring in a record that stretches back to 1891.

MC2 Post 1867 Apple Made a Big Deal About METAL at WWDC 2014

They were, of course, speaking  'Hyperbole' of Course...

As Is Their Style.  And the subject was the Graphic sub-system of any computer.

Reminding us that the lesser the layer of  graphic Bloat between the Graphic card and the visuals and games you are throwing on the Screen the Faster they are going to Run.

Putting  the Pedal to the Metal, to put it simply.

But what improves Graphic Performance can also be adopted to speed-up CPU performance.  As long as the OS isn't just wasting it's time just spinning it's wheels.

Trying to de-cide what to do n-e-x-t.  Like most OSes do.

So Lets Now Talk about REAL METAL.....

10 Most Powerful SuperComputers Running Linux

From:    http://www.linuxfederation.com

Supercomputer operating systems have undergone major transformations, as sea changes have taken place in supercomputer architecture. While early operating systems were custom tailored to each supercomputer to gain speed, the trend has been to move away from in-house operating systems to the adaptation of generic software such as Linux. 476 of the top 500 fastest supercomputers, 95.2 percent, in the world run Linux. Linux has ruled supercomputing for years. But, it wasn’t always that way.

In 1993, the first successful Linux distributions, Slackware and Debian were only just getting off the ground. Before Linux made its move, Unix was supercomputing’s dominant operating system. Since 2003, the top operating system by performance share on the Supercomputer List underwent a complete flip from 96 percent Unix to 96 percent Linux. By 2004, Linux had taken over the lead for good.

10. SuperMUC (IBM)
SuperMUC was named the second fastest supercomputer in Europe in November 12,

2012 at International Supercomputing Conferencein Hamburg, Germany. It is also the fastest Intel-compatible system in the world.

The SuperMUC will have 18,432 Intel Xeon Sandy Bridge-EP processors running in IBM System x iDataPlex servers with a total of 147,456 cores and a peak performance of about 3 petaFLOPS. The main memory will be 288 terabytes together with 12 petabytes of hard disk space based on the IBM General Parallel File System. It will also use a new form of cooling that IBM developed, called Aquasar, that uses hot water to cool the processors, a design that should cut cooling electricity usage by 40 percent, IBM claims.

SuperMUC runs SUSE Linux Enterprise Server.

==========================================
==========================================

9.Vulcan (IBM)
Vulcan runs Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

8. JUQUEEN (IBM)
JUQUEEN runs Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

7.Stampede (DELL)
Stampede runs Cent OS Linux.

6. Piz Daint (Cray)
Piz Diant runs Cray Linux Environment.

5. Mira (IBM)
Mira runs Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

4.K Computer (Fujitsu)
K runs Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

3. Sequoia (IBM)

2. Titan (Cray)
Titan runs the Cray Linux Environment.

1. Tianhe-2 (NUDT)

Tianhe-2 is a 33.86 petaflops supercomputer located in Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China. It was developed by a team of 1300 scientists and engineers. It is the world’s fastest supercomputer as of November 2013. According to NUDT, Tianhe-2 will be used for simulation, analysis, and government security applications.

With 16,000 computer nodes, each comprising two Intel Ivy Bridge Xeon processors and three Xeon Phi chips, it represents the world’s largest installation of Ivy Bridge and Xeon Phi chips, counting a total of 3,120,000 cores. Each of the 16,000 nodes possess 88 gigabytes of memory (64 used by the Ivy Bridge processors, and 8 gigabytes for each of the Xeon Phi processors). The total CPU plus coprocessor memory is 1,375 TiB (Terabytes).

Tianhe-2 runs Kylin Linux.

MC2 Post 1865 Forget Yosemite OS X --What About Intels Devils Canyon ??

From:  http://www.engadget.com

Sure, we've seen 4GHz base clock speeds before, but never in an Intel chip. Such a part is just weeks away, however, in the form of the refreshed Haswell Core i7-4790K, codenamed "Devil's Canyon." The new chip shifts from 4GHz up to 4.4GHz in turbo mode, with the only downside being a slight increase in wattage from 84W to 88W -- a change that might be partly mitigated by Intel's use of a better thermal interface material underneath the lid of the CPU. The $339 price tag is identical to what you'd pay for the existing Core i7-4770K on Newegg (base clock: 3.5GHz), so it's definitely worth holding onto your cash until the end of the month.

I can't hardly wait until PCPER gets its hands on one and Tests this Bad Boy as soon as it's available...

Let the rumors fly, this conference is all about software

Apple’s annual developer conference, WWDC, starts on Monday in San Francisco. As usual, the company will open the week-long gathering with a keynote, likely to be packed with announcements and previews. WWDC is all about software, particularly the operating systems that power Macs, iPhones and iPads. But from time to time, the company also uses the event to showcase new hardware. There are tons of rumors about what will be unveiled this year; here’s what you can safely expect from the event:
