MC2 Post 1799 KSays: 160 Days and Counting --- Is The Search Really Over ???

Kara Says it's an inner circle guy -- Recode's Kara Swisher says that the board could name its candidate as soon as next week with the nod going to Microsoft's own Satya Nadella.

And all signs point to it being Satya Nadella, the executive vice president

of Microsoft’s Cloud and Enterprise group.

This isn't surprising news — Nadella has been on tap for the position for quite some time, and he seems to be the most likely internal choice, given he's been with the company for more than 20 years.

The Internet of Things

is right around the corner

Like....

And Walt Mossberg has being testing One of these devices.

For the past few days, every time our front door has opened, or somebody walked through our foyer, a nearby lamp has turned on for a couple of minutes and my iPhone has notified me, wherever I was.

The phone has also recorded when my wife and I,
or our cars, left and arrived back at the house.

Tor-Enabled Point-of-Sale Malware 'ChewBacca'

Stole Credit Card Data from 11 Countries

In December, the security researchers at anti-virus firm Kaspersky Lab discovered a Tor-based banking trojan, dubbed "ChewBacca", that was initially categorized as a Financial trojan, but recently security researchers at RSA have uncovered that 'ChewBacca' is also capable of stealing credit card details from point of sale systems.

‘ChewBacca’, a relatively new and private Trojan, used in the 11 countries as a POS malware is behind the electronic theft. ChewBacca communicates with its C&C (Command and Control) server over the Tor network obscuring the IP addresses of parties.

MC2 Post 1796 Google Loses It's MOTO Selling Motorola To Lenovo

Google sells Motorola unit to Lenovo for $2.9B

.

PC maker Lenovo, which has struggled for smartphone success outside China, gets an established global brand, while Google unloads a burden on its balance sheet and a source of tension.

How a Good Move Getting Motorola is Getting Better

Lenovo gets the Motorola brand, as well as its portfolio of devices, including the Moto X and Moto G. In addition, it will also receive more than 2,000 patent assets, while Google will retain control of a majority of the patents it originally obtained when it acquired Motorola several years ago.

A deal instantly gives Lenovo, which has a thriving smartphone business in China but few other places, an established global brand. Google, meanwhile, will shed a business that has continually dragged down its profits.

MC2 Post 1794 Sometimes you just have to send a brick by mail in Utah -- see Historical notes

From:   http://en.wikipedia.org

US Postage raised to 49 cents on Monday.

 Historical notes

Domestic Parcel Post service was adopted in 1913,  25 years after the Post Office had agreed to

deliver international parcel post packages pursuant to the Universal Postal Union treaty and

various bilateral agreements with other nations.

Initially, there were   no or few postal regulations

governing packages mailed by parcel post.

To construct a bank in Vernal, Utah, in  1916,   a Salt Lake City Company ascertained

that the cheapest way to send 40 tons of  bricks to the building was by parcel post.

Each brick was individually wrapped and mailed.

Postal rules  were promptly rewritten.

Bulk postal rates were restructured in 1996:

MC2 Post 1791 Build your own Analog Synthesizer with Korgs MS-20 kit

From:   http://www.engadget.com

At NAMM 2013, we were able to get cozy with Korg's MS-20 mini analog synth.

This year, the company is putting the wrenches in your hands with its DIY MS-20 kit. For $1,400, synthesizer enthusiasts can nab the collection of parts needed to construct a working model of the iconic instrument, with no soldering or electrical expertise required.

You can expect all the features, specs and even the same circuit path from the

original with new MIDI input and USB connections. The kit remains true analog

with 1/4-inch patch bay to boot, just in case you were concerned

Only 1,000 kits will be available, so you'll have to act quickly

when packages become available in March.

MC2 Post 1788 Valve: The future of Virtual Reality is Just One Year Away

Wingman:  "Oh Really?"

Gee!  That Looks Real Comfortable...

From:  http://www.engadget.com

The most exciting aspect of contemporary virtual reality is its implications. Even using Oculus VR's early duct taped-prototype, most users immediately "get it." You're transported to, say, Tuscany, or an underwater exploration vehicle, or a space fighter, and that experience is enough to trigger a flood of ideas for other potential interactions -- interactions that are dramatically heightened by employing a VR headset. How about deep-sea exploration in 4K? Or maybe Mars? And we're not talking just video games, but experiences.

Valve VR lead Michael Abrash detailed that notion in a recent talk:

In 2009,   At TEDIndia, Pranav Mistry demos several tools that help the physical world interact with the world of data -- including a deep look at his SixthSense device and a new, paradigm-shifting paper "laptop." In an onstage Q&A, Mistry says he'll open-source the software behind SixthSense, to open its possibilities to all.

Some of the things Mistry showed in his demo,

sure looked like VR to Me.
