MC2 Post 1135 The Tablet Questions My Son Asked About

My Son asked me a question the other Day That was

Tough to give a Quick and EZ aswer to.

He asked:

What IS a Tablet Really?

I was afraid of Scaring him about What a Tablet already IS and what It will BECOME.

A Universal Interface to all the things
"we think we need"
At Our Finger Tips.

ALL THE THINGS.

Music, Videos, Books, Magazines, Newspapers, TV, Games, Sports and the Internet for Everything Else.

That's what we got with the iPhone and All the Androids and smart phones out there.

Add an HD Camera and we can send a picture/video around the world.  Which was how the revolution was broadcast in Egypt.

Take away both cameras
(smart phones now have 2) and the Phone
and you have A First Gen Tablet.

Which Is Really what the iPod Touch is.

I think of it as the iPad Prototype.

It is also what the Kindle Fire and the Nook Tablet is, an eBook Reader's Upscaled into
First Gen Tablets.

At a Lower price point: Half the Price of iPads.

We are now in 2nd Gen Tablet land, which have a camera.  Androids have up the ante with two, and added HDMI out to connect to HDTV's and an SD style ram storage.  Some also have USB ports to connect external keyboards.

=========================

And Part Two IS:

I Think Apple Got It Wrong and Windows has a Very Good Chance of
Getting It RIGHT.

=========================

Before all you Fanboys Go Nuts on me,
let me explain:

The Wrong part IS SIRI.

Unless you live in a Cone of Silence bubble like Maxwell Smart, the noisy real-life environment the rest of us live in makes it hard to impossible work properly.

Quiet !!!  I want/need to talk to my computer won't work.

Like AI (Artificial Intelligence) we still have a very long way to go in this world.

The problem is we're thinking too small.  5 inch tablets,
Seven and even 10 plus inch displays is going to be
"OLD School" real-fast-now.

Think: Every piece of double-thick glass will be a Tablet.
No matter what that size it is.

Every Piece.

Table tops, Desk Tops, TV's and Windows they are all primed to become our interface to the Next Media/Home Computer.

So we better learn how to work with them. because things are changing fast.  Very Fast.

And a Touch Interface Is Not the Best Fit for all those panels.

And Voice Commands are not the same as Asking Questions. Why?

  Because it's not the same.

Ford Sync seems to be going in a better direction.

Sorry Siri.

Wingman as the Insta-Gator.
