MC2 Post 759 The Fat and Skinny about Quad-Core Chips From AMD

The Fat:

The forthcoming AMD Phenom II X4 970 Black Edition microprocessor will not only be the fastest quad-core chip from AMD, but will also exist in two versions: one of which has all the chances to become a dream of computer enthusiasts because of possibility to unlock two additional cores.

The Skinny:

Sources familiar with AMD's plans claims that there will be two types of AMD Phenom II X4 970 BE central processing units (CPUs): boxed versions aimed at retail market will be based on the well known code-named Deneb design that has four cores in total; tray flavors of the chips designed for system integrators and OEMs will be based on Zosma design, which is basically six-core Thuban chip with two disabled cores that can be unlocked on certain mainboards.

MC2 Post 754 Blog Topic: Wingman Almost Goes Around The Bend

A Beautiful Replacement for your Notepad

Oh, If only That were True. I Use Notepad daily for this and my other Blog Postings. I'm comfortable with Notepad. It's a simple tool that does a simple job. I've tried replacements. Like Gedit in Linux and Notepad++ (which is hiding on my desktop somewhere).

But I always seem to go back to my comfortable slippers known as Notepad.

I fired-up Bend, downloaded from Here: http://bend.codeplex.com/
and started this Blog.

I built my basic Blogger Framework: Date, Blog Title, Lead Line and Main Link and space for my MC2 Logo.

Cut and Paste was the familiar CTRL-C CTRL-V commands I use in Notepad.

So Far so good.

The Main Link was automatically changed to an actual Link.
Cool, but even the Notpad on my iTouch does that.

Then I tried to SAVE my quick skeleton blog.

The Command Bar was pretty sparse with just:

New Open Save Save+ and Replace.

Also to the Top Right was three small type commands:

min max and quit

on top of a search Box witha little magnifying glass.

Cute.

Well, well I said to myself, scavenger-hunt time. I pressed New thinking it had Drop Down Menu of possible choices. It did, but it also cleared the Skeleton Text I just entered. No "would you like to save your "File AS ..." first.

Bad Mojo.

Thus, here I am Looking For The Ultimate Replacement

for my ratty old but still quite usable

Notepad.

Tab Candy Makes Tabs Managable

But Do You Really Want Candy!

Unfortunately, Tab Candy isn’t ready for the mainline Firefox releases and it’s provided (right now) as a full-blown Minefield (Firefox development) build rather than as an extension. It looks stable and like it’s headed for inclusion in Firefox, but it is important to realize it is in development and might not even make it to mainline.

But if you’re willing to go with the bleeding edge, you can start using Tab Candy today. The builds that Raskin has provided are working out fairly well for me so far, if a bit slower than the Firefox 4 beta I’ve been running. But I haven’t tested them on all platforms or for very long. Use at your own risk, and make sure to back up your profile before running experimental versions of Firefox. (But you knew that already, right?)
