MC2 Post 1547 The GOAL RUSH To Fill Google Readers Yanking by Google

What IS the Best Google Reader Replacement ???

News junkies were devastated last week when Google announced that it would eliminate Google Reader, which displays RSS feeds from websites in a simple list format.

After last week's announcement, media outlets rushed to fill the gap with sites and apps that could take the place of Google Reader. Many of the options display the news in sexy, slick magazine-style formats — a far cry from the utilitarian, text-heavy Google Reader.

They're Just Not The SAME Neat Line-Up of 'good-ole' Google Reader..

More than half a billion Internet-connected devices

in U.S. homes

From:    http://www.latimes.com

Thanks to the increasing popularity of tablets and smartphones, the number of Internet-connected devices in U.S. homes has surpassed half a billion.

The number of connected devices per U.S. household with Internet access has grown to 5.7, up from 5.3 devices three months ago, according to a report released Monday by market research firm NPD Group. During that period, the “installed base” of tablets grew by nearly 18 million units, and smartphone users increased by nearly 9 million.

Apple Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co. remained the top two smartphone brands that consumers own, and Apple dominates the tablet market with its iPad.

MC2 Post 1546 Found-- Lying in the Weeds--Elephants

Possibly  a New Google Tool/App called "Keep".

Could Google Keep   be  Drive’s  Evernote?

From:   http://androidheadlines.com

For those of us that live and work inside of Google’s products, like Drive,

Docs, GMail etc there’s always been one thing that seems to be missing

and that’s a decent note-taking app.

Sure, you could argue that you can quite easily create a text document on the fly – which you can – but, there’s never been a cohesive note-taking application from Google. That might all be changing however, with the discovery of something that might have been in the works

for some time now: Google Keep.

How this story developed is what interests me.

Wingman.

How the pieces of the puzzle:  A hiding google app

got Ferreted out by Savvy Eyes,

looking where   google thought no one was looking.

That's the Real Story.

A reworking of what Linus Torlvald's said about finding security holes.

"Many eyes looking is the Best Cure."

That's what brought this to light.  The unsung "Hero" of this story signed

his name in binary numbers.   I read about this on last night "keep-story"

posts on a Nexus 7 News App called

Taptu: on Google Play

Like Taptu.

It also suggest to import your Google Reader feeds, which Google

just announced  it was shutting down.

Good Idea

MC2 Post 1543 Samsung Galaxy S4 Most Notable Features: The Really Good And The Kinda Dumb

From:   http://www.idigitaltimes.com

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is jam packed with features. Some look pretty useful, others look like a gimmick to add a bullet point on the back of the box. Many of the Samsung Galaxy S4 specs we knew already: screen size, processor, storage space, etc. The Korean company though announced numerous software features they plan on coupling with their Samsung Galaxy S4.

Google Reader to Shut Down with other Services in Another 'Spring Cleaning'

Last spring, Page and Co. retired iGoogle, Google Mini and other services as part of a 'spring cleaning' initiative to help it better focus its efforts, and another clean-up round has just begun. This time around, Google Reader and seven other services are getting the axe, bringing the firm's total of features closed since 2011 to 70.

Mountain View says it's sunsetting the feed reader because it has "declined," and that turning it off will allow it to pour its energy into fewer products. Reader will keep the lights on until July 1st, and diehard users will be able to keep their data and subscriptions by using the outfit's Takeout tool.

MC2 Post 1541 Cord-Cutters have More than Doubled in Six Years

Primarily Due to Cost.

There's a war for TV, and the metrics firm Nielsen has been tracking it. The firm today released a report that found that the number of cord-cutters — households that aren't receiving television broadcasts through traditional means — has more than doubled in the past six years. Over five million households are now what Nielsen calls "zero-tv" homes, but even if those are trending upward, they still account for less than five percent of all households.

MC2 Post 1540 How Sweet It Ain't -- Not in Mississippi Anyway

Soda Wars BackLash: Mississippi Passes 'Anti-Bloomberg' Bill

On Monday, a state judge in Manhattan struck down New York City Mayor

Michael Bloomberg's rule capping soda sizes. And lawmakers in Mississippi are taking the backlash against government regulation on food marketing one step further.

A bill now on the governor's desk would bar counties and towns from enacting rules that require calorie counts to be posted, that cap portion sizes, or that keep toys out of kids' meals. "The Anti-Bloomberg Bill" garnered wide bipartisan support in both chambers of the legislature in a state where one in three adults is obese, the highest rate in the nation.

The bill is expected to be signed by Gov. Phil Bryant, a Republican. It was the subject of intense lobbying by groups including the restaurant association, the small business and beverage group, and the chicken farmers' lobby.

Self-Tracking Apps To Help You
'Quantify' Yourself

Technology has made it easier than ever to track your activity levels, your sleep cycles, how you spend your time, and more. The self-trackers who near-obsessively capture and analyze their own data are part of a growing "Quantified Self" movement.

Interested in giving self-tracking a try? Self-tracker Peter Zandan, an executive at Hill+Knowlton Strategies who headed up a panel on Quantified Self this year at South by Southwest, helped us curate this list of apps and devices to get more data feedback from your daily life.

If you're just getting started, the most "mainstream" self-tracking devices are the Fitbit, Jawbone UP, and Nike Fuelband. Apple's getting in on this wristband-tracking market with its iWatch, which is expected to come out at the end of this year.

For heart rate monitoring devices, Garmin and Polar both make options that self-trackers like.

MC2 Post 1539 Steganography or How to Hide Text in Image or Sound Files

From:   http://linuxaria.com

Steganography is the art and science of writing hidden messages in such a way

that no one, apart from the sender and intended recipient, suspects the existence

of the message, a form of security through obscurity. The word steganography is

of Greek origin and means “concealed writing” from the Greek words steganos

(ste?a???) meaning “covered or protected”, and graphei (??af?) meaning

“writing”. The first recorded use of the term was in 1499 by Johannes Trithemius

in his Steganographia, a treatise on cryptography and steganography disguised

as a book on magic. Generally, messages will appear to be something else:

images, articles, shopping lists, or some other covertext and, classically, the

hidden message may be in invisible ink between the visible lines of a private

letter.

And now that we have saw the definition of this word, let’s take a look at three

open source programs for Linux that you can use to play with this concept:

Steghide and Outguess and one closed source Steg

===================================
From the Steghide -- Download  PAGE:

You can download the current version of steghide (0.5.1) on this page.

After downloading unzip the contents of the zip file into a directory of your choice.

You can use steghide from the command prompt.
