Hurricane Iselle loomed about 600 miles east of Hilo, spinning at about 85 mph, forecasters said. It previously had been expected to weaken significantly before reaching land.

The storm is expected to lash the Big Island on Thursday with damaging winds, heavy rains and high surf. It's now on track to remain hurricane-strength or weaken only to a strong tropical storm, said meteorologist Derek Wroe.

NFL Preseason 2014 Preview:

Dallas Cowboys vs. San Diego Chargers

From:   http://www.rantsports.com

The Dallas Cowboys will take on the San Diego Chargers in their first preseason bout this Thursday. With only a few weeks of training camp under their belts, the second and third string teams will be in the spotlight to show what they’ve got. So let’s discuss the three main things everyone’s thinking about:

With veteran QB Tony Romo not playing at all, QB Brandon Weeden will be the man of the hour. Weeden was drafted No. 22 overall two years ago (the same spot as QB Johnny Manziel) and has had the opportunity to take a lot of snaps so far this camp because of Romo’s injury. Both QBs have solid receivers to throw to as well, but I think Weeden’s performance will top that of QB Kellen Clemens. If he channels his inner “Johnny Football”, he should be alright.

Freeway Series May Be Key on the Road to the Title

From:   http://www.nytimes.com

Andre Ethier was mobbed by teammates
Tuesday after his 50-foot grounder led to
the winning run for the Dodgers.

LOS ANGELES — As if to mark the moment, the setting sun had turned the hills and the palm trees in Chavez Ravine a golden hue as Mike Trout stepped into the batter’s box for the first time Tuesday night. He shrugged off the boos from the sellout crowd, wished the umpire Chris Segal and catcher A. J. Ellis good luck, and dug in against Clayton Kershaw.

Trout, of the Los Angeles Angels, and Kershaw, of the Los Angeles Dodgers, have emerged as baseball’s most dynamic player and most dominating pitcher, sharing one of the nation’s largest media markets. But they had not faced each other in a competitive game until Tuesday.
