Ahead of tomorrow’s big reveal, here’s
everything we know about the Moto X

What will be new and different about the first true Motorola and Google phone?

A leaked photographic representation of the Moto X's many layers.

From:   http://arstechnica.com

By all indications, that's finally about to change. Rumors about a coming "X  Phone," later dubbed the Moto X, have been building since late last year. Eric Schmidt himself has been spotted carrying one around already. Motorola's logo has even been changed to incorporate Google's flatter, simpler aesthetics and to include a Google logo. These changes indicate that Google is finally taking ownership of Motorola in spirit as well as on paper.

The UPS Store to Offer 3D printing Service in Select San Diego Locations

From:   http://www.engadget.com

Today, The UPS Store announced its plan to bring 3D printing services to the masses. The shipping company will soon roll out Stratasys Uprint SE Plus printers to 6 locations in San Diego to test out the new service; it'll be aimed at small businesses, start-ups and retail customers in need of a professional grade model to produce things like prototypes and artistic renderings. At $20,900 a pop, Stratasys printers aren't exactly the kind of gadget you'd purchase for home use, so their availability at UPS stores is a pretty major step towards making high quality 3D printing an accessible option for the common man.

MC2 Post 1662 How The Epiphany Helps Promote a $99 parallel computer machine

Why Creating a $99 Parallel Computing Machine is ,

just as hard as it sounds.

From:   http://arstechnica.com

"It's like a blank canvas for Boolean logic," Olofsson said. "You can implement anything you want while the board is in the field. A portion of that chip has a dual-core A9 that runs Linux like any other SoC (system-on-a-chip). The other part, you load in during boot time a bit file that configures what that logic should do. … Most boards you have today are all locked down.

You can only change things in software, you can't change the hardware. With this board you can actually change the hardware."

Parallella also ships with open source development tools geared toward the Epiphany chip, including a C compiler, debugger, Eclipse IDE, OpenCL SDK/compiler, and run-time libraries. It uses a 5V power supply.

Cassini has been in orbit around Saturn since 2004, surveying the planet, its

rings, and its satellites. Currently, it sends back to Earth more than 60 raw

photos a day of Saturn in all of its moods, as well as its satellites, and NASA

has made these images freely available for public use.

From:  http://www.theregister.co.uk

Teardown Google's li'l Chromecast media-streaming HDMI dongle is certainly getting a lot of attention for a thirty-five-buck, one-trick pony. Announced on Wednesday and given its Reg review on Thursday, Chromecast has left one admirer "pretty blown away," was praised for its "pure simplicity" by another, called a "cord cutter's dream" by a third, and said to possibly presage "Google's domination of TV delivery" by a fourth.

MC2 Post 1657 The 2013 Nexus 7 Performance Preview

a Huge Speed Upgrade in Every Way

From:   http://arstechnica.com

Google finally announced its second seven-inch Android tablet, just a few weeks after forum users and random OfficeMax employees and Best Buy all beat them to the punch. Just because the tablet has been thoroughly leaked doesn't mean it looks like a bad device, though—its components aren't all cutting-edge, but the new Nexus 7 seems like it will bring a sizable performance bump for just $30 more than the $199 asking price of the original.

Overall, the new Nexus 7 moves performance ahead by a sizable margin, especially given that it costs only $30 more than last year's model, and it has come out only a year later. We'll be digging more into performance as well as other aspects of the tablet in our full review, which (fingers crossed!) should be going up some time next week.

MC2 Post 1656 Dell shows off the UltraSharp 32: a 32-inch Ultra HD display set

To arrive in Q4.

If you're looking to boost the resolution of your workflow, Dell took the opportunity to unleash one such display during the proceedings at SIGGRAPH this week. The UltraSharp 32 is a 32-inch Ultra HD unit that wields a 3,840 x 2,160 IGZO panel sorting 1.07 billion colors. An aluminum stand has replaced the plastic-draped one from previous models, but the same height adjustments reside around back. The UltraSharp 32 also houses both full and mini display ports (with the requisite cable included), HDMI jack, a built-in USB hub and an SD card reader along the left side.

Veteran directors warned students in US about difficulty of getting projects into cinemas, and suggested studio cautiousness could lead to hiked ticket prices.

The two Hollywood titans painted a picture of a future in which the failure of half a dozen $250m movies in quick succession caused a seismic shift in studio dynamics, leading to audiences being asked to pay $25 a ticket for films such as Iron Man 3 but just $7  for movies such as Spielberg's own Lincoln.

Week in Geek: Comic book, superhero, sci-fi and fantasy news

Man of Steel 2 will make a villain of Superman or Batman

Zack Snyder and David Goyer will have to tread carefully to keep fans hooked, but this could see the genre go stratospheric.

Make no mistake: Warner Bros has pulled off a huge coup with its announcement at this weekend's Comic-Con that the next Man of Steel movie will feature Superman battling Batman. Even with rival studio Marvel using San Diego's annual fanboy Mecca to reveal the title (and antagonist) of the next Avengers film, it is the news that Kal-El and the caped crusader will be squaring off that has caught the imagination of public and media alike. That's some feat when you consider that Marvel's comic book ensemble was by far the biggest film of 2012 at the global box office, while Man of Steel hasn't yet passed the haul taken by the fourth Spider-Man movie and got a lukewarm thumbs up from critics.

Samsung reveals new Exynos Smartphone and Tablet chip

Samsung has unveiled its latest top-of-the-range smart device processor saying it
offers more than twice the 3D graphics power of its predecessor.

The Exynos 5 Octa is the first production-ready chip to include

ARM Holding's latest GPU (graphics processing unit) architecture.

Samsung's move to license the tech marks a reversal of its

decision to use a GPU design by rival British chip firm Imagination in the last version.

It enters mass production next month.
