When the Angels were in Boston in August, several players asked veteran infielder John McDonald to bring the World Series ring he won with the Red Sox last season from his home in Scituate, Mass., to Fenway Park.

 
They wanted to see it, to touch it, to imagine what it would be like to slip such a hefty, diamond-encrusted ornament on their fingers.

"It was pretty cool," center fielder Mike Trout said. 

"That's what you play for. You want to get that ring."

The Angels are a long way from being sized for such fine jewelry. The postseason is a

three-round, month-long grind, a grueling test of talent, will and endurance that can

stretch to 19 games and requires 11 victories to hoist that championship trophy.

Sony sees $2.1B loss for fiscal year as mobile woes take a toll

The Japanese electronics conglomerate warned Wednesday that it will post a loss of 230 billion yen ($2.1 billion) in its fiscal year that ends 

March 31, 2015.

The situation is so bad that Sony is suspending its dividend -- the first time it won't be making a payout since it listed in 1958.

The retailer whose name was once synonymous with electronics says it may be headed for bankruptcy or even liquidation. RadioShack said Thursday it may need to file for Chapter 11 if its cash situation worsens, after reporting its tenth straight quarterly loss. The company is also exploring other options, including a sale or an investment, to overhaul its balance sheet, it said in a regulatory filing. RadioShack, whose sales have been in a free-fall since 2010, said it was working with its lenders and landlords to restructure its debt and cut costs.

Through Apple Pay 

So far, Apple said, “innovative merchants and service providers on board” with Apple Pay include Panera Bread, OpenTable and Starbucks. “Joining by the end of the year: Disney Seamless, Instacart, Nordstrom, Chipotle and MLB.com,” Apple said.“Currently, making purchases on a mobile device is tedious at best,” the company said. “Apple Pay is also going to make buying stuff through apps easier, more secure and private.”

Apple Pay will be able to store a user’s credit cards for instant use at a number of participating retailers, including McDonald’s, Starbucks, Wallgreens and Macy, and to make online purchases through select apps.

One of those apps is MLB.com’s “At Bat,” which will allow fans to instantly purchase tickets to Major League Baseball games.

Details on how exactly the process will work are scarce, but it will be available for download when the

 iOS 8 update hits Apple Store shelves Sept. 17.

Restaurant companies will be among the first merchants to integrate Apple Pay, a phone-payment platform that Apple Inc. unveiled Tuesday. Apple: Tim Cook Introduces ‘Apple Watch,’ Starting at $349, Available ‘Early Next Year,’ Does Payments

There will be three different editions of Apple Watch, including one with an aluminum frame, called “Apple Watch Sport,” one with stainless steel, called simply “Apple Watch,” and another in gold and rose gold finish, called “Apple Watch Edition.” They start at $349 and will be available “early next year.” Some subdued response to that, a bit of disappointment echoing through the room. But Cook insists it “is certainly worth the wait.”

 

Although formal specs for battery life for Apple Watch were not discussed, an Apple staffer at the demos following said the the company expects it to go for a day and to get charged overnight.
