Sony Corp.’s TV studio, maker of hit shows such as AMC’s“Breaking Bad” and this year’s new NBC drama “The Blacklist,” said Monday it will begin production early next year on a psychological thriller for Netflix from the creators of the FX legal drama “Damages.”

 Several cars and models -- some of just sections of the vehicle -- were used to shoot the scene. The submarine Musk bought for $920,167 at a London auction was just one of them. 

It's a so-called wet submarine, meaning that it fills with water when submerged, so the driver has to wear a wetsuit and breathe air from a tank. (The dry passenger compartment shown in the movie was a set.) It has no steering wheel or other automobile controls and is instead controlled with levers. The fins on the outside are not retractable, but permanent.

Tesla Motors first car, the Tesla Roadster, was also based 

on a later Lotus sports car, the Elise.

NEW YORK (AP) — Strong third-quarter results have sent Google shares past the $1,000 mark for the first time.

Shortly after the markets opened Friday, Google Inc. shares jumped more than 12 percent to $1,002. The stock had never before surpassed $928 in regular market trading since Google went public at $85 per share nine years ago.  Late Thursday, Google reported better-than-expected third-quarter results.

The numbers showed that while the company's advertising prices continue to decline, that's being offset by 

a larger number of people clicking on ads.

Filming first began way back in 2000 but was blighted by an eerie sequence of accidents. Military fly-overs drowned out the dialogue, flash floods washed away the set, and then one of the film's stars, the French actor Jean Rochefort, was taken ill, having to be airlifted to hospital after suffering a hernia. Insurers decided to pull the plug, making it one of the most costly – not to say notorious – cinematic projects of all time.

In spite of a recent legal decision to award Gilliam rights to the script, he has decided to start the project afresh.

"We're going to completely reshoot it," he says. "The intervening years have taught me that I can actually write a much better film. I'm so excited it's going to get done at last."

Higgs Boson scientists Awarded 

Nobel Prize in Physics

 
Drs. Peter Higgs and François Englert have been awarded the Nobel Prize in physics for their work in identifying and discovering the Higgs boson, the so-called "God particle" that could explain how the universe's elementary particles obtained their mass shortly after the Big Bang. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced the winners at a press conference held this morning in Stockholm, Sweden, following an unusually lengthy delay. The two will share a prize of 8 million Swedish krona (about $1.2 million) that will be awarded at a ceremony in Stockholm in December.

But because of Uribe's home run, the Dodgers avoid a return trip to Turner Field for a Game 5.

They will have to wait until Wednesday to find out whom they will play in the NLCS. That's the day the St. Louis Cardinals will host the Pittsburgh Pirates in Game 5 of their division series.

If the Cardinals win, the Dodgers will start the NLCS on Friday at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. If the Pirates win, the Dodgers will open the NLCS at home.

MC2 Post 1713 118-Carat White Diamond Sold At Auction

NEW YORK -- A New York auction house is showing off what it calls the world's greatest white diamond on the block – a 118-carat stone from Africa the size of a small egg.

 

The oval diamond glistened in its glass case Wednesday at Sotheby's Manhattan headquarters, not yet mounted after it was mined and cut two years ago. 

It will be auctioned 

in Hong Kong on Oct. 7 and has a pre-sale estimate 

of $28 million to $35 million.

In terms of size, quality, polish and color, "this is the greatest white diamond we've ever had the privilege to sell," said Quek Chin Yeow, deputy chairman of Sotheby's Asia and an international diamond expert.

In a First, Japan Airlines Orders Airbus Jets

TOKYO — Airbus announced a $9.5 billion order from Japan Airlines on Monday, the European aircraft builder’s biggest breakthrough in Japan, which is one of the last redoubts of dominance by Boeing.

Japan Airlines and Airbus said the Japanese carrier, also known as JAL, would buy 31 A350 wide-body jets, which are expected to replace Boeing 777s in the carrier’s long-haul lineup. Airbus is set to begin deliveries of the A350, a new plane that made its first test flight in June, to JAL in 2019.

Linux-capable Arduino TRE debuts at Maker Faire Rome

The Arduino project announced a third-generation Arduino single board computer featuring a dual-processor architecture, and able to run a “full Linux” OS. The Arduino TRE features both a 1GHz 32-bit TI Sitara AM335x 32-bit ARM Cortex-A8 processor, for running Linux, and an 8-bit Atmel ATmega microcontroller, for AVR-compatible
