MC2 Post 599: Ubuntu is Officially "A Little Less Human."

Ubuntu is Officially "A Little Less Human."

Like Tiger's "Apology",  it should have been Tweeted First.

It (Ubuntu), was You Tubed, by  Mark Shuttleworth,

Ubuntu's Founder, Yesterday.

Unfortunately there is no info on the new theme, called Lucid

User Interface (and there is no Artwork drop)

A freeze will take place on March 4,

so we should see it in action very soon!

How To Stream Videos (Any Format) To Your iPhone [Linux w/ WINE].

The original How-To was posted on LifeHacker (A Great Site by-the-way) and

using Air Video, Free from the App Store.  Of Course it was posted to

work Only On PC or Mac's Desktops, naturally.

Someone tried it on Linux (Ubuntu) and used Wine

(to take the place of windows) and it Worked there too!

Here's the Link to the How-To on Linux.

MC2 Post: Sagem Orga's SIMFi merges WiFi with SIM cards

This turns any phone into a hotspot

SIM card provider Sagem Orga has hooked up with

Telefonica to develop a marvel of modern technology

called "SIMFi" that combines -- you guessed it --

WiFi with a run-of-the-mill SIM card

like you'd slip in your cell.

We had no idea you could fit WiFi circuitry into a

25 x 15 x 0.76mm footprint --

Bourne AKA Wingman Is Back

=========================

Bourne Again Shell And Wingman Is Back

=========================

After too many months living with Windows 7 and some tech news yammering about Windows 8 will be very different...

I've started having remorse about dropping Linux.  So this last weekend I went over to my friendly neighborhood Barnes and Noble and picked up Two Linux related magazines.

One was Linux Journal and the other was a Linux Pro Special Edition called Linux Shell Handbook dated spring 2010.

A Cover Lead article was called: 300 of the Best BASH Commands. As everyone should know, BASH stands for Bourne Again SHell.

The premier command line shell in Linux.

Needless to say, I'm Back Baby.

I'm Back.

The Day After Patch Tuesday is A Good Time To Think about System Tools.

------------------------------------------
The Hidden Treasures of SysInternals

Like:

Disk2vhd which creates VHDs (virtual hard disks,

Microsoft’s VM disk format) from physical drives.

(Don't forget to take note of the Two Gotchas.)

DiskMon which captures information about every

read and write to your hard disk and shows it

in a fast-moving list.

The Writer Says: The reason I needed this tool was that a Windows Vista machine

had suddenly started thrashing its disk for no apparent reason.

(Yes I Know, In Linux, Tools Like These were Always Available)

Apple: No iPad pre-orders for you!

Tablet ships in 60 days, says Jobs, but Apple's store doesn't let you pre-order

A 9.-7-in. tablet that comes in three memory configurations, as well as in two distinct models --
one with Wi-Fi connectivity only, the other with 3G capability as well. Jobs also spelled out
a pricing matrix that starts at $499 and ends at $829.

But while the Wi-Fi-only iPad will go on sale in 60 days, or around March 28, Apple is not
accepting pre-orders until an undetermined future date.
The Wi-Fi-plus-3G iPad will be available in 90 days, or around April 27.

Apple's Web site does contain technical specifications for the iPad, as well as a marketing video and product shots.

Amazon likely to raise e-book prices,
then blame publishers

Computerworld -  When Apple Inc. introduced the iPad last week,
it launched a lot more than a tablet device.

The announcement included the Apple iBook store,
which in subsequent days provoked an e-book pricing firestorm,

leading Amazon.com to temporarily halt sales of Macmillan
e-books and paper books over the weekend.

Reactions to Amazon's pulling the plug on Macmillan, and

Amazon's subsequent capitulation, took off in all directions.

Macmillan authors, notably science fiction writer John Scalzi,

were outraged by Amazon's action.

Meanwhile, some Amazon.com e-book buyers blasted Macmillan,
vowing they won't pay more than $9.99 for a first-release e-book,
and will take a pass on e-books that cost as much as $14.95,
the price Macmillan is proposing.
