MC2 Post 1605 Symbol Sense -- Making Sense of Symbols in Mathematics

Some math puzzles are easy, and some Not so muchWhy?

PDF page regarding Clausius-Clapeyron relation

I came across this pdf on my Nexus 7 tablet last night and asked:  "Why are mathematic equations so "hard" to decipher?

If I only knew what those symbols meant, I could get a better understanding of this equation, and hopefully, other equations like it.

That's me, always look First for an easy answer.

Well, that didn't work.

I put that aside and picked up my copy of  H. G. Wells:
"The Outline of History" volume one.

I've been reading (listening audible book) Snow Crash by  Neal Stephenson, where he dips into (among a lot of other things) into
Sumerian myth and the Tower of Babel story
in the bible.  So I went looking to see
what Wells had to say about Sumerians.

Instead, I landed on Well's chapter XII: The Languages of Mankind, and especially the part about why the Chinese Language is so basically different.

So symbolic-like.  My reading.

Maybe I needed a better understanding of Symbols, beyond mathematics.

Well let me see what I can find out about mathematical symbols.

Like the saying goes:  Seek and you shall find.

I came across this great PDF file explanation on:

The Importance of Symbol Sense in mathematical problem solving.

This will tell you Pretty Quick, whether you have symbol sense or not,

and how to fix it by looking at symbols differently.

Wearable Tech: More Than Just Google Glass [Infographic]

Last week, the market research firm MarketsandMarkets released a report that projected global shipments of wearable electronic devices -- otherwise known simply

as "wearables" -- will grow at a compounded annual rate of 30.4%

between 2012 and 2017.

By 2018, 134.3 million units will ship worldwide,
with expected revenues of $8.36 billion.

This changing tide in how we consume technology has not gone unnoticed. Already, wearables are being regarded as the future of how we’ll engage with the digital other-world created over the past 30-plus years.

MC2 Post 1602 A No-Go on XBMC's Frodo but Still OK with EDEN

About a month and a half after the release of XBMC 12.1, we are happy to announce XBMC 12.2 with substantial fixes  for 12.1 and 12.0 across all platforms.

From:  http://xbmc.org

Fixes include:

Fixed infinite loop on addon dependencies, resolves crashing problem that arrose immediately post 12.1 launch
    Numerous UPnP fixes
Memory leak fixed when XBMC is minimized
Various Raspberry Pi playback fixes and software codec support
    Fixed OSX audio mixing
Fixed some audio-related crashes in Linux builds
    AirPlay fixes
    Bluray folder resume-bookmarks now work
Ability to scan for new content on file folders has been reimplemented
    Language updates from Transifex

While a Nice Tidy List of Fixes, the Problem I was having on my Window's 7 Desktop  (HP Compaq) machine was No-Sound-Output whatever.

What to Do?

An Easy Fix for this Open Source styled Software was to Fall-Back to a Previous VERSION.

In this Case, it was Eden.   I installed the previous release Over the newly installed Latest release,  hit the start program button and Bam, my older version XBMC had beautiful sound once again.

Link to Older XBMC 11.0 Eden: RC 2.

If you noticed the fixes list of  Frodo, you'll see that XBMC has a special compressed version of XBMC just for the Do-it-Yourself computer know as the Raspberry PI.

MC2 Post 1601 Spy on the World's Web Searches with a Google Trends Screensaver

Just like the POI machine...Wingman

From:  http://betanews.com

Google is all about searching. Well… not "all" about, but it's what the company is known for.

Any firm that logs information about how customers are using its services are usually berated, but Google Trends can provide a fascinating insight into how the rest of the world is using the internet.

This tool has been available for a while but there's now a sexy new full screen mode available -- and you can turn it into a screensaver.

If you've ever been curious about what people in other parts of the world are searching for, head over to the full screen visualization tool and you can find out.

At the bottom of the screen you can choose from one of several countries, or opt to see an overview of global searches.

MC2 Post 1600 $99 Linux Stick turns any HDMI Display into a Virtual Desktop

From:  http://www.pcworld.com

Hard on the heels of the news that Dell's “Project Ophelia” thumb PC is expected to ship this summer, thin client vendor Devon IT on Tuesday rolled out a similar contender of its own called the Ceptor.Devon IT

Like Dell's device, the $99 Ceptor is designed to plug into any HDMI-compatible display or monitor. Slightly larger than a USB memory stick, the multimedia-capable unit can then transform such a device into a “zero client” virtual desktop.

Whereas Dell's device uses Linux-based Android, however, the Ceptor uses Devon IT’s own Linux-based zero-client operating system, known as ZeTOS, to let users access their virtual desktops.

MC2 Post 1599 Wi-Fi chip Pushes 1.7Gbps over Four Streams using 802.11ac Standard

Hello 4K ???

Quantenna new 802.11ac Wi-Fi chipset

From:  http://arstechnica.com

Quantenna today announced an 802.11ac Wi-Fi chipset
that pushes  1.7Gbps of data over four
wireless streams.

The first chips based on the 802.11ac standard hit 1.3Gbps last year by creating three streams of 433Mbps each. (With the older 802.11n standard, the maximum throughput for a single stream is 150Mbps.)

Quantenna's QSR1000 chips based on 802.11ac are thus a minor evolution over what was already available, using Multi-user MIMO technology with four spatial streams to hit 1.7Gbps

Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 Review:
The Titan Descendant

From:  http://kotaku.com

The GeForce GTX 680 was Nvidia’s first 28nm part featuring 1536 CUDA
cores, 128 texture units and 32 ROP units. It's remained since release
Nvidia's fastest single GPU graphics card of the series, second only to the
dual-GPU GTX 690 which features a pair of GK104 GPUs.

And so for the last 12+ months the GTX 680 and the Radeon HD 7970
have been battling over the performance crown, forcing numerous price
cuts and even a little overclocking from AMD to produce the 7970 GHz
Edition. In the end AMD was able to undercut Nvidia on price, producing
what we believe to be the better solution.
