Google’s Public DNS intercepted in Turkey

Saturday, March 29, 2014 4:45 PM
Posted by Steven Carstensen, Software Engineer

We have received several credible reports and confirmed with our own research that Google’s Domain Name System (DNS) service has been intercepted by most Turkish ISPs
                               (Internet Service Providers).

A DNS server tells your computer the address of a server it’s looking for, in the same way that you might look up a phone number in a phone book. Google operates DNS servers because we believe that you should be able to quickly and securely make your way to whatever host you’re looking for,
be it YouTube, Twitter, or any other.

But imagine if someone had changed out your phone book with another one, which looks pretty much the same as before, except that the listings for a few people showed the wrong phone number. That’s essentially what’s happened:
Turkish ISPs have set up servers that
masquerade as Google’s DNS service.

Citi Fails Fed Stress Test ..... (again.)

The Federal Reserve dealt an embarrassing blow to Citigroup on Wednesday, attacking the bank’s financial projections for its sprawling operations and denying the bank’s plan to increase dividends and repurchase stock.

In a report, the Fed rejected Citigroup’s plans to manage its capital, citing concerns about the “overall reliability of Citigroup’s capital planning process.” It was the only one of the nation’s top five banks that failed to persuade the Fed to bless its plans for shareholder payouts.

The Fed did not give many details behind its rejection, which was the second denial of Citigroup’s capital plan in the past three years. But analysts and investors said the message
from the regulator was clear.

Apple Getting VERY interested in monitoring your health.

This is Healthbook, Apple’s major first step into health & fitness tracking Seven years out from the original iPhone’s introduction, and four years past the iPad’s launch, Apple has found its next market ripe for reinvention: the mobile healthcare and fitness-tracking industry. Apple’s interest in healthcare and fitness tracking will be displayed in an iOS application codenamed Healthbook. I first wrote about Apple’s plans for Healthbook in January, and multiple sources working directly on the initiative’s development have since provided new details and images of Healthbook that provide a clearer view of Apple’s plans for dramatically transforming the mobile healthcare and fitness-tracking space…

MC2 Post 1821 What Goes Up Must Come Down Even Cloud Storage Pricing

Google's Drive SLASH, and the secret 'big upgrade'

coming later this month...

From:  http://www.theregister.co.uk

Google has slashed its online Drive storage prices so fast, it undercuts all of its rivals – and  its own products.

The dramatic price cut for Google Drive was announced on Thursday: storing 100GB of data in its systems per month has fallen from $4.99 to $1.99. Storing a terabyte now costs $9.99 a month versus $49.99 previously, and 10TB will set
you back $99.99 per month.

More intriguingly, the Drive price cut undercuts the $6.30 Google charges for storing 100GB in its mainstream infrastructure-as-a-service Google Cloud Storage.

It's rare for a company to undercut itself so dramatically, and there's a good indication Google is about to dramatically lower the price of its mainstream infrastructure pricing.

For one thing, the search supremo is due to hold a major cloud event in San Francisco on March 25 where it promises to announce "a number of new products and services."
