MC2 Post 1375 My Cup Runneth Over Oracle Patches JAVA 7 Security Flaws

After listening to Steve Gibson on Security Now wednesday's Netcast This Morning, I was wondering How I was going to BLOG about the Java 7 Vulnerability.  The one that someone in Chatroom Quipped:

"Write Once, Infect Every Where...".

Turns out Oracle Did-Not Drag Its Patch Fix This Time (The Quarterly Update Schedule patch would come in October).

They Put Out A PATCH Today....

From:  http://reviews.cnet.com

What Version of JAVA am I Running (Check Page):

Oracle Patches Java 7 Vulnerability

Breaking its quarterly update schedule, Oracle has released a new Java runtime that addresses recent security flaws.

In response to the findings of a recent vulnerability in Java 7 that was being exploited by malware developers, Oracle has released an official patch that takes care of the problem.

In the past week, a new vulnerability was unveiled in Oracle's Java 7 runtime, which has been used by hackers in targeted attacks on Windows-based systems. Similar to the recent Flashback malware in OS X, this vulnerability allows criminals to create a drive-by hack where the only action needed to compromise a system is to visit a rogue Web page that hosts a malicious Java applet.

===================================
===================================

The Java 7 Update 7 patch can be downloaded from the Java SE Downloads Web page, and Oracle recommends that
all users of Java 7 apply the update.

and Envy 4 Ultrabook with touch

Starting with that Spectre XT, this is the same aluminum-and-magnesium design introduced on the 13-inch XT, right down to that soft-touch bottom. Aside from being bigger, though, it also steps up to a 1080p IPS touchscreen, making this the first time HP's used a 1,920 x 1,080 display on one of its Ultrabooks. It's also relatively thin, at 17.9mm and 4.77 pounds -- an impressive feat given that Intel requires Ultrabooks this size to be no thicker than 22mm (and that's without factoring in touch-enabled machines, which are allowed to be a bit thicker). On the inside, it runs Ivy Bridge processors and can be configured with eithersolid-starage or a hybrid hard drive paired with a 32GB SSD.

MC2 Post 1373 Intel's Full Atom 'Bay Trail' Roadmap Leaked

One of my favorite comics of my 'Youth' was a strip called:

Mark Trail

So the Intel Chips called  CEDAR TRAIL or

CLOVER TRAIL rings a fond memory.

From:  http://www.engadget.com

We saw a leaked hint of what was coming for Intel's Valleyview system-on-a-chip (SoC), but now the full plan appears to have been outed by Chinese blog Expreview. The lineup will feature four models of the 22nm chips, with the D- and M-series looking to replace the Cedar Trail 32nm SoC chips used in current netbook and low-end desktop devices. The I-series is for embedded and industrial use, while the T-series would appear in tablets and other small form-factor devices, according to the leaked slides. That model would supersede the Clover Trail SoCs, which are only just arriving themselves in upcoming Windows 8
slates like the Acer W510 or Asus Tablet 810.

Sony Xperia Tablet S Official: Slimmed-Down Design

Tegra 3, IR remote and Android 4.0, starts at $400

===================================

Looks like those leaked slides showing Sony's Xperia-branded tablet were right about pretty much everything. (Well, everything except the price, anyway). The company just formally announced the Xperia Tablet S and, as rumored, it features a Tegra 3 chip, Android 4.0 and up to 64GB of built-in storage. Like last year's Tablet S, it has that distinctive folded-over magazine shape, except this go-round it's made of metal, and measures between .35 and .47 inches thick (the weight, too, has dropped to 1.26 pounds, down from 1.31). Sony also kept the Tablet S' IR emitter, which allows the tablet to double as a universal remote, and this time you can program shortcuts to do things like watch sports. Rounding out the spec sheet, there's a full-size SD slot, a 9.4-inch (1,280 x 800) IPS screen and a 6,000mAh battery promising 10 hours of runtime.

From:  http://www.engadget.com

We've seen a fair bit of news out of IFA 2012 already, but things really get underway today with the first two big press conferences. Sony's is set to start shortly at 10:00AM Eastern, and we'll be covering it live right here, while Samsung's is set for later this afternoon at 1:00PM Eastern --

our liveblog for it will be happening here.

It looks like IFA will be where many Windows 8 devices shown back at Computex get (more) official. Exhibit A is ASUS, which today pulled the curtains on the Vivo Tab and the Vivo Tab RT, previously known as the ASUS Tablet 810 and the ASUS Tablet 600, respectively. There's still no pricing info available, but the company

has filled in some of the remaining spec gaps.

MC2 Post 1371 Spherical Glass Lens Concentrates Sunlight by Up To 10,000 Times

And Boosts Solar Cell Efficiency

From:  http://www.engadget.com

Eking out more power from solar cells is an ongoing challenge for scientists, and now architect André Broessel has developed a spherical glass energy generator that's said to improve efficiency by 35 percent. Acting as a lens, the rig's large water-filled orb concentrates diffused daylight or moonlight onto a solar cell with the help of optical tracking to harvest electricity. In certain configurations, the apparatus can be used for solar thermal energy generation and even water heating.

MC2 Post 1370 Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Specs Allegedly Leak in Full

From:  http://www.slashgear.com

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 2 phablet is believed to be only days from its official release, but a Korean newspaper claims to have jumped the gun on what, exactly, the stylus-toting handset will bring to the table. The Note 2 GT-N7100 will have a 5.5-inch 1280 x 720 display, so the Seoul Newspaper claims, along with 3G/4G connectivity and a 1.4GHz quadcore Exynos 4412 processor. Somewhat surprisingly, it’s also tipped to arrive running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, not the older Ice Cream Sandwich.

MC2 Post 1369 RIP --- Neil Armstrong -- Experience the Apollo 11 Moon Landing

The Best The WEB Has To Offer is Real Tributes Like This:

From:  http://thenextweb.com

It’s something that not many people can fathom or process, because of its magnitude. As we think about how far technology has come since 1969, it’s still amazing to me that we were sophisticated enough to pull off such an amazing feat.

At 82, Neil Armstrong passed on, but will never be forgotten. Nor will Apollo 11, and its mission, for that matter. For the 40th anniversary of this magnificent flight, there was a site built called “We Chose The Moon” and it lets you “re-live” the entire mission step by step, word by word:

MC2 Post 1367 Apple's Big Win over Samsung -- What Does it Mean?

If it stands, a jury's one-sided decision will impact consumers, vendors and the entire tech industry. But for now, it's a wait-and-see game.

History buffs will note that Apple scored one of the most lopsided victories since Agancourt on Tim Cook's one year anniversary as the company's CEO. Late Friday, a jury in San Jose, Calif., courtroom decided overwhelmingly in favor of Apple's patent claims against
Samsung, awarding the company $1.05 billion in damages.

The verdict is likely to reverberate throughout the tech world and beyond, but it won't have much immediate effect on consumers. The next steps will more legal action, with Samsung expected to file an appeal and Apple filing for injunctions on Samsung products that violate its patents.

MC2 Post 1365 Nikon's Latest Camera Runs Android

(CNN) -- The gulf between smartphones and cameras is getting smaller, thanks to a new point-and-shoot camera from Nikon that's powered by the Android operating system.

The 16-megapixel Coolpix S800c camera, announced Wednesday, will be the first camera running Android on the market when it hits shelves in September.

The addition of Android brings a few much-needed features to the point-and-shoot. Users can download mobile apps from the Google Play store and share images over cellular networks by tethering to a nearby smartphone or tablet.
